Local Bus service
Posted on 03. Feb, 2010 by scott1662 in General
I called into the bus offices today to find out what was happening with the new timetable, I was informed that there would be school buses in the morning and two buses around six in the evening, other than this there is no buses going to get you to our estate. The gentleman I spoke to in the offices told me that a tender had been put in by the bus company, and that councillor Tom Barr opposed it and said this service was not going to happen as the council have no money and cannot afford it. It seems to be that our local council want to take take take, firstly the ground maintenance, then council tax and now this, I think this is something else that we need to address, seems like there is always enough in the pot for their swarees.

I went to see Tom Barr last year about buses and he told me It had nothing to do with the council and they have no say in what the bus companies do.IHA were supposed to have had all these services arranged before Pavilion gardens was built. Now people are stuck here with a long walk to Girdle Toll for a bus.

You would think if social housing is to be provided that there would be an obligation to provide public transport to that area. Castlepark and Girdle Toll get 6 buses per hour and we don’t even get that in a day. Yet another slap in the face for the estate.

We moved to the estate last year from Prestwick , my daughter was in the habit of getting the bus into Irvine and home again when she got off the train from Prestwick Academy. My elderly parents visit on a regular basis usually for a week at a time and are now stranded when they get here!!
I have complained about the(lack of) bus service to all four local councillors, stagecoach and SPT. Stagecoach said tough not there problem it had gone out to tender but only one response and it wasn’t suitable, SPT are still to respond and Councillor Kirkwood was going to a meeting with the other local councillors and she said it would be brought up about the lack of buses.
The number 22 goes into Irvine from Montgomerie Park mon- fri at 7:28am and returns at 5:45pm and 6:10pm
Sat no buses into Irvine but three back at 5:45pm, 5:50pm and 6:10pm and no service either way on a Sunday !!

Just had an email from SPT regarding the bus service to Montgomerie park. There is going to be a bus service (no 29 again) hopefully starting on 1st March going from Irvine Train Station via Old Caley Road, Irvine Cross, Middleton Park, Middleton road and then to Montgomerie Park it is awaiting approval from the Traffic Commission. So fingers crossed.
